Eoghan Walls (Ireland) read the 2010 John Hewitt International Summer School, alongside Chris Agee and for the 2012 John Hewitt Spring School in Carnlough. In his capacity as an Open University Tutor, he conducted poetry workshops at the 2013 John Hewitt International Summer School.
Eoghan was born in Derry and studied English and Philosophy at University College, Dublin before receiving both an MA and a PhD from the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry at Queen’s University, Belfast. He taught Creative Writing at Queen’s University Belfast, the Open University, and for the SUISS program at Edinburgh University, before being appointed Lecturer in Creative Writing at Lancaster University.
Eoghan was a recipient of an Eric Gregory Award in 2006 and his debut collection, “The Salt Harvest” (Seren, 2011) was shortlisted for the Shine/Strong Award. He is the recipient of a 2009 Irish Arts Council Bursary and has been shortlisted for the Crashaw Prize and the Bridport Prize. His second collection, “Pigeon Songs” (Seren, 2019), was a finalist in the Pigott Poetry Prize, 2020.
