The Varying Degrees of Racism by Lata Sharma

QUB JOHN HEWITT PUBLIC LECTURE

The Varying Degrees of Racism.

by Lata Sharma.

Synopsis:

This talk will focus on an excerpt from Lata’s one woman show, ‘Sausage Sodas and Onion Bhajis.’ Her story will take you through a maze of emotions, telling the story of how this young Indian girl, born of Indian immigrants, must learn to navigate her way through during some of N. Ireland’s darkest days, to find how she, ‘fits in’.

Lata Sharma is a writer, actress, singer, journalist, and a Belfast girl of Indian heritage.

She works on diversity issues, seeking to find the most positive and productive ways to bridge the gap between the two main communities, and those from different heritages.

Lata has written short stories about how to navigate and fit into this much loved but divided society for a BBC/Lyric theatre collaboration and BBC Radio 4.

Today she freelances as a social/cultural commentator on Radio Ulster and U105.
